McCain and the financial crisis

How do they spin this mess in Congress? Was this McCain's intended result? I guess he is going to have to suspend his campaign again to straighten out this mess. McCain staked much on putting his leadership to work on this legislation. I don't see how this does anything but hurt his campaign.
